Crowdfunding platforms have helped launch hundreds of innovations from young entrepreneurs – allowing them to get the start-up capital funds and turn their idea into action.
Platforms such as Pozible, StartSomeGood, indiegogo, Chuffed, Kickstarter and GoFundMe help get an idea off the ground with a community of supporters. This is part of the business of changemaking, that you are not just changing the life of the entrepreneur, you are changing the lives and environments of others as well. Here are just a handful of young people who have embraced crowdfunding to get their ideas going.
- Madelaine’s Organic Eggs by Madelaine Scott (Raised $67,986)
Madelaine raised an absolutely whopping $67k to take her organic egg business to the next level. She used the crowd funded cash to buy the equipment she needed to ensure she could keep raising her chickens to be free-er than “free range”. - Bust a Move Dance by Ali Philips (Raised $42,408)
This Brisbane based dance school work with students who have a wide range of disabilities. The team raised well over their target of $30k and put the cash to good use, taking the dance crew overseas to achieve their dream of performing at the Special Olympics in LA. - Power Parcel by Joel Young (Raised $8,457)
Towards the end of 2015, Joel Young and his team met their goal of $8k and went into business with their subscription box for social good. The idea was simple, every season they deliver a box of socially conscious goodies to their subscribers. The response was awesome, raising enough cash to get the business up and running with enough left over for their first delivery. Keep doing what you’re doing Joel! - Inspirationery by Cassie Dewar (Raised $20,263)
Absolute hero (and FYA aficionado) Cassie Dewar hit her target of $20k and was able to found her own eco friendly stationery company, Inspirationary. Designed to inspire and empower its user to follow their dreams, and donating 50% of their profits to women and girls around the world. - K-Tag by Sophie Weldon (Raised $5,325)
Friend of FYA, Sophie Weldon, raised just over $5k at the end of 2014 to launch her dream project, K-Tag. K-Tag is a global card game where kindness and happiness are the ultimate winners. Sophie says it best herself: “Young people want to give, we just need to give them the tools to do it in a way that is easy and makes sense.”
