The only equation I’ll ever need to get by.
HSC level (which is the final year school certification, for those playing in other states and territories) mathematics will now include super important life lessons, helping teach essential life skills like calculating interest rates, home loans, comparing investments and borrowing money. All the stuff I really wish I knew.
The changes set to be incorporated into the current mathematics syllabus, rather than replace elements of the existing maths syllabus. So if you’re in year 11 or 12, you will still have to learn about the names of the angles in your triangles as well. Sorry.

In related news, maths based pranks continue to be hilarious.
The more practical topics have been introduced after students, parents and employers have been complaining that students have been finishing high school without the practical skills to get by with the day to day stuff.
The news follows a big move announced earlier this week that compulsory numeracy and literacy tests will need to be undertaken by all HSC students. :'(
Hopefully the change is a successful step towards an education system that better reflects the demands of the world. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
We’ve been banging on about the need for the school curriculum to reflect real life skillz for a while now. If you’re keen to read more check out our New Basics Report – promise it’s not borezo.
