9 Things That Make Working In Fast Food The Best / Worst

1: The Customers

There’s the complainers, the impatient ones and the ones that are just way too happy. It’s understandable that customers can be one of the worst things about working in fast food, however sometimes that extra nice one can make it all worth the while. If you’re a nice customer, know that we appreciate you!

2: Your friends

You can always count on your work mates to make you laugh even though a customer just handed you $15 in coins. Lovely.

3: Pay Cuts

Let’s be honest the pay can suck considering the things we have to put up with on a daily basis. Not to mention if you’re like us, recently we received our pay slips and to our horror saw that penalty rates were cut on weekends and public holidays. With recent penalty rate cuts slowly being implemented over the next four years, we will be clinging to our coins.

4: Managers

Shoutout to THAT manager who’s phone is glued to their hand, even on lunch rush.

5: Online training

That rush when you finish the 306 compulsory modules to finally complete your online training.

6: The Fries

When customers ask for no salt on the fries knowing full well you’ll have to put down a fresh basket just for them. We see you, we know what you’re doing and to be honest we don’t love it.

7: Free food

You’d be lying if you said getting free food wasn’t a perk. Learning to sneak it when the manager isn’t looking is a useful skill that you will have endless opportunities to employ.

8. When the ice cream machine breaks

When the ice cream and frozen coke machine simultaneously don’t work and you have to mentally prepare yourself and your co-workers for the abuse.

9: Staying balanced

One of the biggest challenges about working as a young person not just in the fast food industry but in general is keeping up school, work and social life. It can be hard but staying organised and positive makes a difference. Saying yes to an extra shift is great but it’s okay to say no to hang out with your friends and family every once in awhile.

As a young person, whether it’s your first or your fifth job, fast food always has its moments and these are just our picks. Next time you’re at work maybe you’ll appreciate some of the reasons why your job is the best, but also the worst.
